MidiWing
Musicode Innovations
Taos, NM
Phone: (724) 658-2141
MidiWing is based on the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI), a computer communication protocol. MIDI is the protocol which allows electronic musical instruments and other musical hardware to talk to each other and to computers. MIDI controllers tell a sound producing device what note to play, for how long, how loud or soft and other similar information. Instruments built around this 30-year old standard are very flexible and cost-effective. MIDI can also be transmitted over USB and MidiWing also transmits MIDI messages over USB so it can be plugged immediately into any computer to access the resources available such as sounds, music software and video software. Yes, MIDI can control more than music. Most theater lighting is now MIDI controlled and there are software programs which allow manipulation of images with MIDI signals. Therefore, MidiWing means access to anything that can be controlled with MIDI.

Soundbeam provides a medium through which even profoundly physically or learning impaired individuals can become expressive and communicative using music and sound. The sense of control, agency and independence which this provides can be a powerful motivator, stimulating learning and interaction in other areas. Soundbeam is identified as a key resource by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in assisting children with learning disabilities to attain learning targets as prescribed by the National Curriculum for Music. Its success rests upon two factors: the sensitivity of the beam means that even the most unreachable or immobilized individuals can ‘play’ independently; secondly, electronic technology makes available a huge palette of possible soundworlds, releasing the player from the traditional limitations of percussion-based activity.

The VMI uses a web camera to detects motion, while also reflecting the user’s image on a screen. As a child moves to virtually “touch” shapes on the screen, sounds are emitted. VMI requires no special equipment; it can be installed on any Windows-based computer, using any web camera device. Designed for use by therapists and educators, it is customizable according to the preferences and needs of the child, and can be used for specific therapy or educational goals.

UDAR
Contact page: http://uda.la/postmail/postmail.html (use Google Chrome to translate)
As a college student Michinobu Uda dreamed of creating a unique musical instrument, with a lot of hard work and study he did just that. The UDAR is a scifi-esque musical device played like nothing else I’ve ever seen.
Sounds good doesn’t it? Mr. Uda uses both hands to press parts of spiral cords that wrap around either side of the device. Each turn of the cord represents a jump in 1 octave, and movement from the center of the UDAR outwards increases the pitch. It has foam on the ends so you can comfortably place your palms on each side, and also wires to help you twist your hands around the device. The UDAR uses midi output, so the instrument can be changed to whatever sound you like strings, piano, guitar etc. I know the first question you may have is, “How much does it cost?”. Unfortunately Mr. Uda currently has no plans to sell the UDAR.

PowerLink will accept any single switch, including our Big or Jelly Beamer wireless switches. We think the new PowerLink is one of our best looking products ever, but that's not even close to the best part. How about an on-board display that lets you set the exact number of minutes or seconds of control? How about a new "Count" mode that allows for easy, precise data collection? Want more? Choose the new "Two-switch" mode for collaborative activation for safety or cooperative play.
